It's interesting how common magic is in this world. So many books make magic rare, but here you have common practitioners of all kinds.

I really like Ogion.

Everything feels very much like a normal epic fantasy story so far.

Poor Chandresh...

Isobel really gets the shaft in this story.

Bailey basically has a Cinderella mini-plot. You really want him to escape.

Poppet and Widget are probably the best characters in this. Imagine never knowing anything other than traveling about in a magical circus.

I can't help but really dig Tsukiko's mystique.

Those too close to the circus's inner workings are driven mad by its impossibilities...

I love the ice sculpture tent. That one sounds the most enchanting.

It feels like this story just drifts along. I'm not really pulled by it. No stakes.

I like how Prospero gets halfway disembodied. Seems fitting.

A circus full of actual magic that no one notices because they expect it to all be slight of hand...quite amusing.

Chandresh is my spirit animal.

This is like reading a dream. The circus isn’t there one day and then it is. It opens only at night, shows people strange shows, and then disappears from town as mysteriously as it arrived.

Gorgeous book cover. And the paper is the creamiest stock I’ve ever touched.

This is a masterpiece on so many levels.

I love that the book gets more contemplative and reflective at the end.

I guess that Vis is one of those characters who is good at everything. I still love this book though.

Good grief the action is nonstop.

I love how Vis has to recognize everything about his home but pretend not to under threat of death if he’s found out.

Can we all agree the Hunger Games thing has really played out, though?

This book has everything in it: dark academia, unique world, rags to riches, unique magic system, fight the system, dystopia in a fantasy setting, awesome powers, rank-climbing, intrigue, exposing corruption, and mysteries galore.

The friend that backstabs Vis...I didn't want to believe it was going to happen, even though I kind of thought it might...ouch.

I’m a big sucker for hidden passageways in castles.

I love getting to go and actually see Vis’s home at about 3/4 the way through the book.

Nobody can complain that nothing happens in this book!

Eidhan went from being a thug to being one of my favorite characters in the whole thing!

I am absolutely blazing through these pages.
