I was expecting this book to be structured more narratively like Behind the Mirror, but it reads more like a special edition Survivor TV Guide or coffee table book or something. There are lots of themed lists.

Might have to DNF this one, finding it boring so far.

Wow, I don't think I can make it through this one. It feels so repetitive and like it desperately needed an editor

Really struggling with this despite enjoying his last book. Considering DNFing because it just feels so trite and overexplained.

I might not be able to make it through this sentence…

Strongly considering DNFing at 65%. This takes slice-of-life to its most banal.

So far my feeling is that this book could’ve just been an article.

I would’ve DNF’d at the end of the first chapter if this book wasn’t for book club

I read the first chapter and I can already tell is going to be a tough one to get through

Oh man I’m really tempted to DNF. I see where this is going and not feeling it at all, I find the characters so flat and boring and so little has happened.

Made it more than a third and not sure if I’ll continue. So far the marketing calling it the Japanese Breaking Bad seems wildly misplaced at best and like a deliberate bait-and-switch at worst. Also needs an editor! This is definitely longer than it needs to be.

Feeling like this might be a DNF…

I really want to get through this book because it was a gift, but I really just hate it…
