Starting to sense how best to read this. Alternating now with different books. Only read a 5-10 pages of each book then flip to another. You get out of the zone after 30 or 60 minutes anyway. Switching puts you back in the zone, makes you less hurried as you step back in each time. You don't have to pause reading variety while reading a novel. Go parallel and prosper.

Figured out the mode to read this in. Each line an image, but they flow and merge together. It's rhythmic.

Grampa died in the valley of the shadow of death. Died a away from his land, in a stranger's tent, his wife shouting hallelujah. Buried in an unmarked grave that won't ever be found.

Enjoyed!
But not what I expected, and very long
Lesson: Notice what keeps defying your expectations, and tune into that. You've discovered an adjacent vein of gold in the novel.
Also, I dislike fiction that is deliberately boring and repetitive. Today's opportunity cost for attention is enormous. Brothers K makes me wonder if Moby Dick, Bleak House, etc are in the cards.

Kinda sloggy with the long screeds, but that's the story! Just rollin with it.

Just now figuring out how to vibe with this. Don't try to look for symbolism and map everything onto theme. Just get absorbed in the people and the imagery.

The dialog is funky, but I'm kind of used to it after having read the Odyssey. Just roll with it.

Fyodor is hilarious.

Not doing the slow-ponderous-rereading thing, because this one is too long. Read attentively, but maintain forward momentum.

I'm pausing this one; probably won't continue TBH.
The prose has a ton of "in-the-clouds" introspection. I wish more focus was put on the characters, because they're very interesting and I want to see them in action more.
The novel shifts out of the gang-city setting into a chill small town setting. So both the plot and setting have gone a direction I'm not interested in.
