Not sure if any book has ever managed to arouse such a distinct kind of fury & unease in me as this one.

It should be considered some form of crime to write literature this offensive to anyone who is a father, with such a high level of writing quality.

I'm immensely impressed with how profoundly disquieting this is

Shaping up to be a 5-star.

Feels that it lacks a coherent thesis so far, the introduction didn't really establish a narrative before moving on to reviewing relevant thinkers.

There are a few consistent themes that I assume are intentionally mentioned, the main one being "decline-ism" springing up as industrial revolution reactionism.

Fascinating read for now

Chapter 7 had some uniquely well-written emotional character moments, highlighted by the characterization of Hawkwood's bitter marriage.

For me at least, when small moments resonate emotionally this well, it immediately makes me bullish on the book.
Hoping this lasts 🤞

Finished "The Grand Inquisitor" - Book stopped feeling like a slog throughout the conversation between Alyoshka and Ivan, and became fascinating for its duration.

Dostoyevsky is highly capable of creating complex characters with unique backstories, but I find the writing style so difficult to read that I am contemplating taking a break and moving to a different book - something I'm not sure I ever did, and actively try to avoid.
