An excellent survey of postwar American lit with a unique, if not always fully convincing, framing. McGurl is a better storyteller than theorist, and the neologisms and diagrams were definitely the weakest part of the book. Still, he was right to point out how overlooked CW has been in American studies.

Regrettable edition but what are you gonna do

I’ve never understood, is the copy of In Search of Lost Time supposed to be the entire thing? It has a cloth binding, which seems impossible to fit over 2000 pages in. Is it just Swann’s Way? Is it Swann’s Way marketed as the whole thing, since that’s the only part most people read anyways? I need answers!
