First part extremely interesting about Ponar where the Nazis killed thousands of Jews in the forest then used Jewish “prisoner laborers” to cover the crime and the true account of how about a dozen of them escaped knowing they had to survive to “tell the story”
The second part of the book tells of the survivors life after the war and the story of their families.
Difficult to read; how much humans can endure

Just starting Book #2 “ Miles to Go”

Extremely interesting book about a group that hid Jewish children during the Holocaust with the intention of reuniting them with their family after the war.

Interesting true story of author’s Grandfather’s service for Russia during World War II, when he became a German prisoner of war (a fact he had to hide because the KGB considered POW’s as deserters) and how he kept the true story from his family up until current Russian/Ukranian War
