This is truly terrible. I don’t know if I can force myself through it.

I’ve seen reviews that say you must survive this first book because the 2nd one is amazing but I do not have high hopes when the writing includes phrases like “he said silently” when the speaking is actually audible and not, in fact, silent.

“In order to have a future worth fighting for, you must have a past worth remembering.”

“Forgiveness…wasn’t something that shot up out of the soil; it had to creep in over time, like a vine.”

“Time was like a rock bed with a lot of layers…Even the most unbearable things became fossils, after a while.”
