I think Jewell is getting sloppy. One character saw a photo of her long lost uncle with a clown mask. WITH NO OTHER RESEARCH, she decides to go to the local circus in town and just so happens to find said long lost uncle. At least the main character did some detective work to find him originally. Jewell's justifications for solutions are shaky at best.

The main character just brought her dog, who is completely untrained in the skill of finding someome by smell, to an empty lot where the missing person could have been over a week ago. She has the dog sniff an old bra, and the dog found a coffee cup - literally a piece of trash - and the MC says: "The missing person was definitely here." Mind you there's no name on the coffee cup or any other evidence. Be so serious

"What started with an obsession over a missing girl..." oh PLEASE. she was never OBSESSED, it was a passing fancy AT MOST. don't make me laugh

So many of Jewell's thrillers rely on the domestic, mundane drama of the main characters to keep me engaged while the mystery brews in the background. This domestic "drama" is a huge nothingburger and is bothering me.

YAAAAAAWN. This main character is so boring. "It could have been her". But it wasn't. So what? Just like the character says, it's just a silly anecdote about her life. Main character seems to forget about the mystery at points and is so focused on how lonely and bored she is. Yes, I'm also bored. Other Jewell books (The Night She Disappeared) did the amateur detective well. This one is not, so far.

man I love Leckie's ability to just zoom into some bullshit going on in some inconsequential part of her own universe and go, "get a load of this", and i go wow ann leckie youre so right. what is going on here!

I think the audiobook narrator should've been given some better direction for the songs in this one. They ended up all sounding the same or just like spoken word poetry. Original trilogy audiobook narrator did a much more servicable job.

Snow is so ODIOUS. GOD. This is like the best writing I've ever seen from Collins. She does villain so well. What she doesn't write (and what Snow *doesn't* think) is almost as good and as telling as what she does write. Disgusting. I can't stop listening.

I love reading Ann Leckie books and going, "I think I know what's happening, but what the fuck is happening," and just knowing it'll pay off. My faith will be rewarded I just Know it

I wonder if Ann Leckie names her planets and cities and societies specifically to be impossible to pronounce. "Ooioaa", "Aaa", "Athphsid". "Rrrr". thank fuck i'm not the audiobook narrator for this

I wonder when this book will start? If I have to hear another disclaimer about the purpose of the book and "as you you'll soon see..." and "something we'll get into later", I'm going to scream. STOP EDGING ME AND START THE BOOK!!!!!!

At every section I think, "no way this could get any worse", and then it ABSOLUTELY GETS WORSE.

Some slower pacing in terms of story. Really making a meal out of the day to day in Corusant, Capt Rex doesnt show up until Chapter 10. Still interested, don't know if the pacing has to do with the slower narration. However this narrator is FANTASTIC. amazing range
