Así se sentirá leer LOTR?

Cuanto más quiero aclararme, más me exagero. Cuanto más pretendo que puedo decir lo que quiero —y cuando más pretendo que sé qué quiero decir—, más se trasluce en lo escrito el personaje que no soy. Quisiera escribir oscuramente. Que solo yo me entienda, a escondidas de mí, lo que no puedo decir.

(…) this one story about a traffic cop that falls in love with this very cute girl that’s always speeding. Only, he’s married, the cop, so he can’t marry her or anything. Then this girls gets killed, because she’s always speeding. That story just about killed me. What I like best is a book that’s at least funny once in a while.

Faith is not the childish belief in magic. That is ignorance or even wishful blindness. It os instead the realisation that the tragic irrationalities of life must be counterbalanced by an equal irrational commitments to the essential goodness of being.

One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damaged inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell or make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business; or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise.
