I love these books, the story line, the character development, but I have to say that Maddie is a total nosy Nellie. Honestly, it's a complete shock that she hasn't been in more trouble in Nashville.

Also, annoyed with what I just read. Maddie tells Det. Turner about what Amber said, which legally is unconsequential. If any evidence of what she said came up, the sheriff would chase it, but she assumes he won't.

My only complaint so far is that this book pushes race. I don't have a problem with that, but with the way it is written, it comes across as forcing an agenda into the setting. I am an escapist reader. It literally would have been enough for me if the writer just described Darien as black or brown, as Carminder originally was. There's nothing more that I hate than virtue signaling, which is wildly apparent here.

So far I REALLY am enjoying this story. I just came off of a several day psychological thrillers binge, so this is most definitely the palate cleanser I needed. The characters are all really likable and endear themselves to the reader pretty quickly. The writing and characters reminds me of Rainbow Rowell, which is fantastic.

This book so far feels so familiar like I could have written it myself. From the anxieties of new motherhood, to introversion, to the challenges and deeply penetrating thoughts of insecurity in making new friends. It's wild. Its assumed that Ms. Monago has experienced all of the above because I can't possibly imagine someone just creating the depths of my own thoughts by pure imagination.

Great story so far, but there are some parts that drag out a little. I question the realism of the depth of the animosity between prosecution and defense. Obviously, it's hyped for dramatic effect, but there are times it is way over the top, beyond belief. Like when the IceBerg calls him "Hypocrite," and I think in technical terms, she's not wrong. Haller toes the line and crosses it when he can get out of it.

I realized my issue with this book. With the time jumps, it almost acts like a TV show episode, where there's obvious space in between, and it is eluded to but in this book, gives very little information to pay catch up.

I'm only a quarter into this book, but so far, I'm a little bewildered... between the time jump from the last book (I think 2 years) and the holes. But plot holes, per se, but it just seems like this book was very rushed. The issue with his daughter and the loss in the election, which were both very quickly explained and then referred to in a way that there's more to the story, but you're just not gonna get more.
