This is stupendous so far. I love discovering a new-to-me historian with a backlist!

I am working on slowly divesting here and shifting my bookish focus to STORYGRAPH and I encourage everybody to do the same. Goodreads continues to strip functions, ignore users, and allow bots to destroy the database. I love an author who makes me want to write.

Oh come on, no. No, no, no, this couldn't actually *happen* though! Sigh. Commercial thrillers, dang it anyhow.

Book club book! I'm...like...very skeptical right now. We'll see how it all works out.

This is my third book by this author, and one thing I've learned so far: she shall not be rushed. We'll get there when we get there. And I love it.

I don't know exactly where this is going, but wow.

Another Pulitzer winner (it'll take me years to get to them all, but I'm determined). The writing is crisp and accessible, and the depth of research is impressive.

Believe it or not, I put this on library hold without knowing it's a vampire story. But I'm glad I didn't know, because the thrill when I realized... 😆

After reading Mexican Gothic and The Daughter of Doctor Moreau, I'm in awe and adding all the rest of Silvia Moreno-Garcia's books to my TBR...and she wrote VAMPIRES!!! HOW DID I NOT KNOW UNTIL NOW SHE WROTE VAMPIRES also she is the most versatile ever and every last genre she tackles is something I love and I'm just going to have a new favorite author soon I have no doubt.

The house is alive? The house is eating people? The house is haunted? What is going on this is so good I cannot put this down.

they’re burning all the witches even if you aren’t one

Okay, I reached the scene in which our ghost narrators are murdered and it's...chilling. Wow. (Not a spoiler, they announce from the beginning that they were murdered and the reader is basically waiting for this moment.)

Okay, this one took me a minute, but we’re vibing now.

In awe of this book. Not sure where it all ends or how I’ll feel about some people by then, but wow regardless.

Okay, I’m catching on. Still this is sci-fi in classic form, cerebral and sterile, so while I am duly impressed and disturbed by the concepts, I’m not invested in anybody’s fate.
