it’s crazy to reread this as 28, because i realize that rory is like 17 and stephen is 19 and the shades are just KIDS. like i don’t know. bittersweet bc i will always be older than them.

Stephen Dene’s character is so dear to me. That’s one reason why I’ve put off reading this for 10-12 years. But Maureen Johnson was a saint and put it on Wattpad in like 2014. So I’m reading it now and I’ve already cried.

Maybe I’m being deliberately obtuse, but I don’t understand how this book gets so much hate. When you look at it as a story on its own, without the influence of the musical or movies, it’s timely and well-written. The characters are real and flawed and human. Idk this has just been such a joy to read.
