I can physically feel a star limply peeling off the 5-star score I’d been anticipating for 245 pages. What a boring, predictable turn for this otherwise refreshing story to take.

Reading the website in hopes of rekindling my fondness for this series. Its crazy how cool/funny/witty this series is when its presented to me in tumblr-style shitpost formatting and Studio Trigger-style art. Xiran my love are you sure a written narrative is the best choice for this series I think you'd write a banger graphic novel/comic/manga script. Preferably with 30% fewer communism monologues.

This book resisted my reading it so much that it caused me to reread homestuck instead. 8000+ pages of self-indulgent 4chan-bro chronically-online Superwholock nonsense was more appealing than this. Babygirl what happened.

WHY is the word CLOUT in this book

I had to restart this one for the third time because the narrative doesn’t stick… I’ll persevere for my boy Mark Tapley but Charles, man, you’re better than this, c’mon.

The truest testament to THG’s strength as a novel is that 16, 21 and 26 year old me all remember EXACTLY what 9 year old me felt while reading this for the first time. Usually those feelings amount to “WHAT she drops WASPS on them NO WAYYYY!!!!” but I digress!

Why is the word “bogus” in this book. Ill-fitting in both a historical etymology way (18th century American-English slang w/potential French or Hausa roots) AND modern vernacular way. Like you can do whatever you want forever but I just feel this specific setting allows for way more interesting language usage AND it completely took me out of an otherwise interesting conversation. What if Yizhi said “Sigma”.

Ill-fitting Tiktok speeches aside, still having a good time so far! Though I miss when Zetian had the impulse control of a furious Sonic the Hedgehog, she made the narrative way stronger when she was off her rocker on revenge cocaine.
