At 37% through this book I already know this is essential reading, be you a doctor, a nurse, a politician, a health service administrator, or above all, a patient. Which ought to be all of us! Understand those important health decisions you're making - whether it is about your own health, the health of your patient, or the health of our society.

....obviously reading it in English. I'm not that linguistically talented....

Decided to order this book when I heard it was about to be published as a natural follow on from Ben Goldacre's book, Bad Pharma. They have similar themes but manage to cover different grounds. Ben's book covers the waste and potential ineffectiveness of our drugs and the need to sort out the pharmaceutical industry while Margaret's book tackles the questionable benefits of some screening programmes.

This is a must-read for all medical students, doctors, Continuing Medical Education organisers, patients, health administrators and the department of health!

You know that this book is going to be a different sort of read when the narrator's first sentence is "My father was a king and the son of kings". It quickly transpires that his inferiority complex and subsequent problems arise from this lowly status (it's all relative) causing conflicts with his gay lover whose parentage is king and goddess......

Book club choice - deadline 1st August!

A bit more rambling a read than I had expected from Mr Fry, but nevertheless a very involving one. Inspiring, as being very aware of his outsider "different " status causing great turbulence in his early life, he has applied diligence to develop this into huge success.

....and have to refer to the dictionary almost as often as the Will Self I'm reading!
