Another gem from Verghese. He has a comfortable style that pierces through the daily lives of people whose circumstances are far removed from our western, technologically-developed civilization. As a surgeon and professor in real-life, the author does not skirt the explicit descriptions and immediacy of surgical operations, which, I must say, has made for riveting drama.
