Another huge point of frustration…Why would Rook Thomas order the killing of Odette when she could be used as a hostage??? Oh I suppose to shoehorn in the inevitable plot twist of Pawn Clements deciding not to, which is what surely will happen next? Truly, this book took a turn for the worst once I learned who “The Antagonist” is… 🤦‍♀️

They’re discussing the deliquesced body and it is so frustrating to me that they immediately didn’t think of Gestalt. I knew right away, and aren’t these folks who are in these super secret, elite organizations supposed to be, well, elite? How they’re breaking it all down and over explaining everything makes it seem like this book was written for a child, and it most certainly was not.

I’m pleasantly surprised by how comprehensive this is so far!

A good intro so far…

I’ve come too far and endured too much, worm gods, awkward sex scenes, emotionless zealots, endless Duncan reboots….I deserve closure. Expect a long rant at the end. But seriously, the only reason to pick this book up is if you need closure or completion. Otherwise, just read the first book, forget about the rest, and go read or watch something else that gets its point across in a far better way (recs pending)

So one question of many - how is it that the “unknown enemy” is still unknown when Murbella not only has the experience of an honored matre but also that of all her ancestors as she’s a reverend mother??? 🤦‍♀️

‘Loving this book so far. I’ve been listening to the audiobook while cleaning house, and I like how he uses clips from the actual folks who appear in his book. Lots of nuggets to be had for self-improvement

It is definitely interesting! I have some criticisms and questions but he does raise a lot of interesting points.

All the lead characters are male military types and there are quite a few eye roll moments, but I do enjoy post-apocalyptic scenarios and it’s interesting to learn about different perspectives. I think if an EMP event were to really happen, folks would think better of looking down on “hippies” as they do in the book, and see more of the benefits of things like biodynamic farming and mushroom foraging….

I love that the audio version is read by Levar Burton - a book about a childhood hero of mine read by another! ❤️

This book is really getting good now! I just finished the chapter “The Mysteries of Mass” and it was wonderful! So many thoughts and questions about mass that have swam about in my head have been addressed, but of course not 100% answered as nothing can be, and I feel bizarrely validated in the fact that it is confirmed that so much about even mass isn’t known! The more we know, the more we realize we don’t!

I am loving every moment of this book...I just read the delicious description of the Web of The Other World and can vividly imagine the small menagerie conversing together...I can even see S.T. imagining that monocle and top hat the language is so ripe and full and delicious!

Very rich, fascinating, and poignant...as a southerner currently living in Charleston whose family name was briefly mentioned, it makes me want to dig even deeper...
