So excited to see how this compares to Manacled and obsessed that it’s printed on Bible paper

DNF'd this one. Unfortunately, it was terrible!

Listened to most of this, but I am officially DNFing. Unfortunately, did not hook me and I can't bring myself to finish it. Saaba Tahir's Ember in the Ashes series unfortunately has set my bar extremely high for YA fantasy series. This one fell short.

re-listening to prep for Onyx Storm which I am really hoping is less hastily slapped together

So far, loving this, but it hasn’t hooked me in like some of my other favorite titles from last year. Am I going to spend the rest of my life comparing everything to Sabaa Tahir’s Ember in the Ashes series?? Looks like I just might!

Made it through close to half of this before I abandoned it: the writing was witty and engaging, but I think the audiobook format isn't the right way to engage with the characters. Hopefully will come back to it with the print version!

Wish there was a better balance between high stakes and throwing characters in truly hopeless situations. Feels like the back third of this has dragged on far longer than necessary...

Thoughts so far: this bitch really wants you to know that she paints and she WILL mention it every other line. Plot is engaging, but the burn up to any truly exciting or unexpected conflict was LONG.
