Donald Phillips is finished with Ulysses
I'm putting this aside for the time being. Life is too short!

Donald Phillips is starting The Oxford Book of American Poetry
This is a pleasant alternative to my long-term engagement with Shelby Foote and Marcel Proust.

Donald Phillips is starting The Civil War: A Narrative
I'm well into the third volume. I was so frustrated by how the Army of the Potomac once again failed to exploit a Confederate vulnerability so as to bring the rebellion to an end. Grant's fuck up at Cold Harbor was also sobering. Neither the upper-level Rebel or Federal military leadership had seemingly learned a thing after three years of blundering and bloodshed.

So I'm giving this a rest.

Donald Phillips is starting Treffpunkt im Unendlichen
I'm struggling through this Jazz Age novel based on Klaus Mann's experiences in 1920s bohemian Paris.

Donald Phillips is on page 33 of 651 of The Second E.E. 'Doc' Smith Omnibus
These penny dreadful stories make for a pleasant counterbalance to the poetry of John Berryman and Charles Olson.
