I give up. Abandoning this one.

I wish something would happen already. I’m nearly a third of the way through and there’s mostly only been internal dialogue and no action. One more chapter, and then I’m abandoning this one if the pacing doesn’t pick up.

There was a moment where I got very excited and happy about the possibility that the aunties would just casually say they’d been involved in the mafia before moving to the states. That would have been utterly delightful.

To be clear, there’s a difference between “enemies to lovers,” which is a fun read, and “he only hits you because he likes you.” Hoping for the former.

I’m going to be annoyed if this is another “woman falls for her bully” trope. That would make this the second book in a row pulling that nonsense. Here’s hoping.

I’m not really a fan of the trope of women falling for their childhood bully.

No. Just no. It’s rare for me to abandon a book, but this is privileged and full of litanies of pointless complaint. No thank you.
