I need to know if the fmc ever stops referring to the mmc by his full name. It’s not cute. At all.

Literally only doing this because Joshua Jackson is one of the narrators 😅

I get that max is really annoying but with friends like Cole who needs enemies.

I just want to know if the town wanted someone to snoop around the tree farm why did they ask Bennett to do it and not Iris who works at the tree farm?

I’m really getting into this. I’m developing theories and excited to see where the story is going.

This is really interesting so far. The magic system/world building isn’t too hard to follow but some of it is things I’ve read in other fantasy books so maybe it would feel more complex to a non-fantasy reader.

So is Me Jones a good guy or is this book actually a dark romance and he’s a psycho stalker. I can’t tell. 😆

I think I’m going to table this one for now. I’ve been trying the audio and decided it’s probably better if I do this one as a physical print copy where I can annotate. There’s a lot here and the world building is a lot because unlike manacled where we learned the magic system and characters over the course of may books in the past, this is a whole new world.

I think my biggest advice right now to anyone who read manacled and wants to read this too, try really hard not to try find the parallels to manacled and just approach it like a completely different book and learn the all new world building. I think I’d enjoy this more if I could quit doing that to myself.

Oof this is hard to get through. As a mom who let grandparents raise my oldest son, there’s aspects of this that just hit close to home and on the flip side make me feel such opposing feelings and it’s rough. I might be a sobbing mess before much more of this.

This book is very meh. It feels very dramatic but I don’t know why, I don’t know the reason. I constantly feel like I missed something. There all these AHA type moments but then as the reader I’m not let in on what exactly we are shocked by and I realize it’ll likely come together in the end. Still meh.

I’m cackling. This would be a fun rom-com movie.

How does miles always have the absolute perfect thing to say. His understanding of grief and the way he is with Lenny has had me on the verge of tears and smiling at the same time.

This is so good. I typically don’t enjoy 3rd person pov but the way this is written I’ve had very little trouble following the story and it’s tragic but feels like honoring the soldiers and nurses from Vietnam to be hearing this story. Although it’s fiction, there is some truth in it too.

Oh boy another age gap. 15 years with a 20’s fmc. The way she is practically begging him to be with her is a huge ick for me. Girl, if you have to work that hard to convince him, HE’S NOT THE ONE.

Might dnf. Fmc is a single mom who left an abuse situation. Mmc is an older single dad determined to win her over but keeps telling if she doesn’t stop ___ he will be mad at her. That’s such a gross manipulation tactic and it’s meant to sound enduring. It’s gross.
Also the writing is very repetitive, a character will have a thought and then 2 pages later the exact same thing will come up.

I can’t stress enough how a part of the story the songs at the beginning of each chapter are. Each song feels like it’s coming straight from the characters and sharing bits of their hearts and as much as I hate what’s happening in the book at this moment, I keep thinking of how well the author wrote this story.

I can’t do life things because I can’t seem to quit reading this book right now.

My face was literally 😱 as shit hit the fan. So intense.

I am so enthralled with this story. I love it. The only thing is, at barely over 1/3 of the way into the book I know so much drama can happen and I’m dreading it because it could end here with a hea and still be an incredible book but I know how Kate likes to really rip our hearts out and feed them to us before we get that hea.

I am really enjoying this book. I wish I had more time to read because I can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s had my attention from early on.
