The Japanese gave him a Bible and that is how he came to faith. He had some great supernatural experiences.

Being part of the Doolittle raid early in the war so he was in prison for 3+ years. He suffered greatly.

Amazing story of how, after sitting on a stool for month, he got down on his knees, turned from the wall and prayed. He'd been inspired by the story of Daniel. Instead of being beaten, the guards started

Charles Williams sure had a weird dark side: occult, dark poems, sadistic thoughts. I knew little about him and I am kind of surprised he was in The Inklings.

I'm not read any of his poetry but his fiction and prose is some of the best I've ever read in my life. I love reading the books about Port Williams. I don't really want those books to end because it's so interesting and you become a part of that community and the characters are so real. I might reread some of the books I've already read. Maybe I'll look at his poetry.

The way that he describes a person going throug

I think that I heard of this book from a community on facebook, literary life or something like that. The cover of the ebook is very inviting. The cover is of a garden. I'm a sucker for gardens (I have a friend who is a sucker for old cemeteries so to each his own or her own, as the case may be.) I'm not sure but I think the book was written in the '50s. The main character was smoking and at that time smoking was rou

I'm almost finished with the beginning about Japan. The one theme seems that there are many Japanese who don't really apologize for what they did to cause World war II in the Pacific. In the museums and the shrines they don't talk about that.

And it was interesting to read about Japanese nationalism since we've got white (and sadly often so-called Christian going in this country.

I really like the beginning of the book because I wanted to hear more about these NDEs which is not really near death experience because the people are really dead and they have these experiences. At least a quarter of the book really should be a case for hell because he does a lot on hell and how it's perpetual torment and there's no such thing as annihilation. Just sayin' But it's a very good discourse.

Why is this story so familiar? Did I read the book years ago because it's not in my goodreads or my book review notebooks? I started those notebooks back in the early '90s and then stopped when I got Goodreads app. This UK guy is impersonating a Frenchman. He even tries to fool this man's mother? What I remember is that the Frenchman was dead. in this book he's not dead rather injured in England.

Fascinating look into the 911 system. They have a lot of codes. The author also shares her personal story from crack cocaine addict to work in the sheriff's off as a 911 operator. This job kind of reminds me of air traffic controllers.

There seem to be a lot of the dual timeline books not just related to World War II. Another interesting thing is that there are a lot of unusual coincidences, maybe too many. But I still like the book. I like people to continue to remember that war and the Holocaust. We can't forget

I have read a lot about Churchill but not about Orwell. This is a terrific history. I am struck by how precarious events in history. Hitler and the Nazis really thought Halifax would succeed Chamberlain and there would be peace talks. They never thought Churchill would remain. There is the question: why did the Germans stop 8 miles from Dunkirk? Both sides were confused about Hitler's decision to hold off attacking.

not finished yet. The author writes so well. It is fascinating how he alternates between biography of each of the characters (real people of course), details of the Great War, colonialism, appalling things about the culture and the conquest of Everest.
