"It is only later, in solitude, in memory, that the realisation dawns: when the ashes are cold; when the mourners have departed; when one looks around and finds oneself - quite to one's surprise - in an entirely different world."

Well, of course I know what is happening at this point. Everyone probably knows. But it didn't change the fact that this is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.

I had been schooled for many years by the senior female police and fire and ambulance responders that you kept your woman-ness out of your day job. If you needed to throw up you did it discreetly in a bush where no one would see.

"You're not evil, Beatrice, you're resourceful." I need to remember this quote. It could be useful at some point in my life.

At this point, I can understand killing Bunny. I can even justify it - he's so annoying.

We so often forget that our life, our reality, can change in the blink of an eye, in a split second. And then... "There's no going back."

And just like that, it's Vic against the whole world.

I need Roger in my life.

Subhuman... I didn't expect this.

Cancer or dementia? Trying to decide which terrifies me more. Devastating book.

"This was what it must be like when the winners of some shitty trophy in Slovenia qualified for the Champions League and came up against Real Madrid. It was the sheer embarrassment of having taken yourself seriously. I don't think that Slovenian supporters would agree with it.

Oh yes! Roland definitely can be irresistible.

I am not a mistake. I am a miracle. Can't you see?

... on his gravestone it would say 'He actually did it.'

"For them, London was a kind of Switzerland, except with better restaurants".
Just started, but it feels promising.

For me, no doubts - audiobook winning over ebook.

I didn't realise how different the movie is from the book. Until now, when re-reading and re-watching.

The Poisonwood Bible is my second book, written by Barbara Kingsolver (after Demon Copperhead). I'm very happy that I have quite a few to read. She is a terrific writer.

I didn't like Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. But I have a feeling that I will like Sunrise on the Reaping.

Well, it's OK, but I expected more.

I've just started reading it, but I already don't have a good feeling about it.

I've just started, and I must say that the audiobook version is excellent.

I am increasingly dazzled by this book with every page.

Well, I'm still not invested in this book.

I keep forgetting that this is not Dickensian London, but more or less modern USA.

Great book, but so challenging to read... I don't think it's for everyone.

Different world. Quite ugly, tough.

Sometimes it feels like love at first sight.
