Also how unremarkable they are.

I’ve wanted to read something by Forester ever since I saw the Merchant-Ivory adaptation of “Room With A View” 30 yrs ago.

Immediate observation is that he is attempting to shine a less than congratulatory light on the 20th century from the perspective of a very 19th-century mind. He has no great love of the lower classes, and he would like to be rid of 2/3 of the overpopulation.
