Apparently halfway through. The hero seems to be selfish and self-serving, while the heroine is a pretty face that chooses and enjoys crime, and is looking for lurrrrv based on an adage her drunkard gambler of a father passed down. And she's stringing along the nice Duke while pining for the hero. Add spineless to her character shortcomings. Sigh

Cannot relate to Phoebe. Even though she supposedly doesn't fit in with the Quaker beliefs of Philadelphia, she can still be so judgmental and staunchly steeped into those very religious beliefs. Every time Lucas legitimately is angry, she thinks he shouldn't lose his temper. news flash, lady, emotions are emotions, and everyone is entitled to theirs.

My oh my, this book is haunting and intense. Loving the writing!

This hero's horniness is nauseating.

"He wore a sweat-streaked lawn shirt unbuttoned partway across a most expansive chest to reveal a thick pelt of black hair." I don't know why but I cringed when I read "thick pelt of black hair"? Nothing against hairy heroes, I just don't know why this was necessary as part of his intro scene. lol

This book just got dumb with its twists. Heroine's dad is a douche imo.

This heroine is too creepy for my taste. She has an imaginary sister and in my mind, all I can think is this woman has split personality!

"Was she being guided by Granny rose, or simply insane?" This heroine IS insane. She just told an amnesic patient that they are married (usually a very creepy plot line for soap operas) and then she thinks her grandmother spoke the words through her? Um, this b***h is cray-cray. Not sure how the author is going to redeem her :S

On the e-book, I am on pg 176 out of 193. Loving this story... can't believe I am almost done with Rafe's story (what am I going to do with my life now?) and I just love how it is all tying together. Finally Rafe is trying to move ahead with his brothers, finally!

I am intrigued by Rafe as a character at this point. His intensity is very enticing. Within the framework of the overall series plot, though, Rafe is being a douche to his brothers. He refuses to admit that they were just boys themselves at the time and did not have many options. This sense of abandonment is useless when those you resent went through hellish circumstances just like you did. Anyway, let's see!

Rafe is acting like he was so cruelly abandoned and his 2 brothers went on to have splendid lives full of rainbows and sunshine. His grown butt should realize that they all had shitty lives because of his uncle, and he better start acting like a grown man, instead of a spoiled little kid. Ugh

"Toby knew Isabel cared for him. So long as he lived up to all her ideals, he felt secure in her esteem." - Totally feel the same way as our hero right now. Heroine is such a self-righteous holier-than-thou pain. Did I mention that I cannot relate to this character? I feel bad for Toby.

This heroine has got to be the most unromantic and unsexy thing in the world. She might be described as beautiful, but she acts like a machine or a robot. sigh... still not relating to her.

I do like her better in this story. No more of the scaredy-cat act and being mousy and oh-so-blah like in the first book. Xavier seems a bit full of it - let's see how it goes.

Julia babbles a LOT... How is that appealing in any way? It's like she has not a single intelligent coherent thought in her brain. Airhead. ugh

I am going to get through this book no matter how painful it can be in the process. #nevertakethislongtoread

Not impressed thus far. Julia sounds like a nitwit, James is so inconstant and Louisa is such a chicken. And what is up with all the carefree no-abiding-by-the-rules mentality that I'm sure is NOT historically accurate. Should I give up?

The premise for getting a fake fiancee is so flimsy. ugh... do I even want to keep going with this?

I am so annoyed with Sophia. SO ANNOYED. She acts like only her world upended, only she suffered their loss. She shut Vane out of her grief, but he was supposed to be stoic and static until she was ready to come back to her senses. He made some poor choices, but nothing that warrants her hot-and-cold treatment, standing on her pedestal. Gah! not liking this heroine so far. I'm actually on Vane's side right now.
