Something about Japanese literature—when it’s translated well, there is nothing quite as graceful.

Would really like for this to be twice as long..:

I haven’t loved Taylor’s previous books but this is in the running for top five reads of the year

Truly enjoying this, much more than expected

Really enjoying this so far; reads like an understated Zadie Smith

It's interesting how Updike at this early stage of his career was so entirely cynical about life and love and meaning. In his later works you feel the sincerity he develops over time.

The writing, though is the same Updike--incredible, what he does with language.

Okay really enjoying this now! Classic Updike.

I’m going to have to revisit this later. Just not able to get immersed right now like I want to for such an epic.

Rereading this for some cozy comfort. It really is such a good book.

So pleasantly surprised how nice the writing is so far!

Sometimes you just start a book and immediately know it’s going to be one to savor

Sometimes you get a few pages in and think, oh, I’d better savor this one.

I’m making slow progress with this but it is utterly unique, brilliant, and hilarious to boot.

This writing is blowing my mind

So far, the rumors are true: a good old fashioned, British children’s fantasy: magical, sophisticated, simple and charming. They don’t make them like this anymore (except for Katherine Rundall, apparently!

This has been a slow go but so far one hundred percent worth it.

Okay, the writing is already so good. Very happy I picked this up despite not liking Portnoy's Complaint.

Being consistently enamored by family dramas and campus novels, I had to follow up my most recent read (the former) with this (the latter). So far a good choice.
