I think Vianne was too young when she was thrust with the task of mothering Isabelle. It was their father’s duty to parent and he failed woefully.
Could Vianne have been a better sister? Definitely.

The day I found out that many children in Motherless Babies’ Homes had fathers, was the day I began to see life differently (children who lose both parents are sent to orphanage homes).

There are no homes for fatherless children, so why is it okay for fathers to dump their children because their mothers died? A society that absolves men of their responsibilities to their children will never make sense to me.
