Really enjoying the literary perspective Welcher brings.

One of the things that’s struck me the most is the inherent contradictions in purity rhetoric. Are women damsels needing protection or the only ones that can guard their own purity? Are men brave knights or degraded lust monsters?

The damage this ideology did to so many faithful believers is infuriating and heartbreaking. Lord have mercy.

I am SO excited about this book. While I wasn’t explicitly raised with purity culture teachings, I can see many places where they affected my upbringing and how many believers around me view sex, chastity, and marriage. As I seek a Biblical perspective on these things while discerning marriage, I’m looking forward to Welcher’s insights as a (hopefully) helpful guide.

The first devotional that I don’t have to remind myself to read each morning!

Many of the Psalms run together for me, dwelling as they do on similar themes. I love Ortlund’s commentary on each one—it makes each Psalm stand out as a lovely poem-prayer of its own.

And the book itself is just gorgeous. All around, thoroughly enjoying it!

I normally don’t do my law school reading. It’s long, often dry, often tedious, and at year three, some of it is stuff I already know and the rest will be explained to me in class.

But this? I don’t know how Amar’s done it, but this has me hooked. That was the fastest 35 minutes of law reading I’ve ever done.

The first time I read this I envisioned myself as Orual. Now, I find myself relating a lot to Psyche and the heartbreak of having to walk alone in faith at times.

The conversations between Psyche and Orual are honestly freaking me out. Crazy how love can be so intense that it times it feels more like hatred—and how anger and pride can corrupt what is supposed to be so beautiful and healing.
