I began this book and DNF-ed it several times during the first 100 pages. But something about it made me keep picking it up and trying to again.
I’m glad I did for as soon as I passed that 100th page, the book actually began. So if you have begun this book and are thinking of putting it down before you pass that 100th page, don’t!

A bit slow going but revelling in the liquid prose.

Just when I thought it was slowing down, wham! Another plot twist!

Ooooooo! They have blended! But enemies are rife and plots within plots ! Two more books in the series and then the next trilogy, I wish there were more ! I’m hooked!

I’m enjoying this book but as I am reading it in Spanish it takes a moment for my brain to kick in.

Things are getting darker in the plot department but frustrating in the romance department. Still very enjoyable!

Things are hotting up! Yet I wonder if all the separate plots will come together?

This is my second reading of this novel. I’m surprised at how different it is from what I remember as I read it almost a decade ago. Still, I am enjoying it quite a bit.

Reads like a gothic of the 1800’s , very lyric.

I am enjoying this book as much as the first. I was very surprised by the dark turn and I’m enjoying the new protagonists and plotting.
I do wish it were spicier, though.

Almost to the end and it is very evident that this has a sequel and I can’t wait to begin it!
This book has been great fun to read and I would categorise it in the cozy fantasy for adults section.
Onward to the end!

I am not enjoying this culture tale as much as I thought I would.

Pretty much halfway through and really enjoying it. It is a really good bit of writing that you can clearly tell one personality from another without constantly naming them. This book feels cozy-fantasy, so far. The dangers never get overwhelming and the interactions are well orchestrated. Tea is featured but is not out of place , nor repetitive.

Well, once again I am at a loss as to whether reviewers and book tubers have actually read this book. I have found that this anomaly has happened with previous books and here I am again!
I am enjoying the differing POVs and not even one cup of tea has been brewed as yet.
Each character is well drawn out and the initial interactions between , interesting.
I am more than one third of the way through.

I am enjoying this book. I like the five points of view style of it as it makes the book easy to put down and pick up again. I like the characters and their differences and I do not find the narrative repetitive, as some readers found it. Well, early pages, yet …

I find the writing style rather gothic, I believe this to be intentional. I am reading this in its original language, Spanish.

I’m still really enjoying it but I have found an odd flaw. It is clear that the author does not have insight into a female mind. Perhaps this improves in later books in the series, at least I hope so as I own the whole series and plan to read it.
Also the book title and blurb seem to have been placed with haste, still Kris’s adventures are exciting and her resilience admirable.

I think this book has not received a fair shake from book tubers or reviewers. I’m really enjoying it. It a good sci-fi adventure story. I think Kris Longknife is a likeable character with traits that are slightly stereotypical ( rich kid syndrome). All the reviewers went on about Kris being hampered by childhood trauma but that is not so. It is actually the driving force in a successful mission.

I’m in the middle of chapter 8. I’m really enjoying it. This book has had mixed reviews but I like the main character and that she is flawed but holds her own. The book has the feel of the space operas I read when I was younger. It is 20 years old. I’m perhaps that is why it does not resonate with a younger or ( woke) generation.

There is too much pontificating, it interferes with the pace and action of what could be an exciting book. No one spends this amount of time philosophising
a decision, when quick action is called for.
Eg:
If I don’t take this action I shall die, but am I dying because of millions of years of male oppression, or is it because my body are no longer my own, or because , blah blah
I may be DNF.

Loving this mind blowing book!

I have put this book down for the moment. I shall pick it up later on down the road.

This is an extremely creepy book. There are genuinely frightening bits and the book holds a certain Lovecraftian flavour.
I am a bit past half way through. The tone and point of view have changed and so the pace has slowed but still holds the attention as you are fed what was missing from the previous chapters.

I am struggling so I have set it aside for the moment. It went from being a most enjoyable collection of tales to a philosophical, stodgy foolishness that should never have entered the conversation.
The book is set up so you can skip the annoying bits and read what gives one pleasure. It is at this point where so many story endings are being deferred that I find myself considering utilising this system.

I am reading it in Spanish.

At first , I felt confused by the way the book is written, there are many questions to be answered and too easy to make suppositions. This in no way detracts from the creepy and dark atmosphere I am enjoying. This is the stuff of nightmares, a ‘Latin Lovecraft’!
