Cat is finished with 王様ゲーム 1 (Ousama Game, #1)
This is an interesting concept for a death game story, but this volume didn't get into the grit of the story enough for me. It's very much a starter volume before anyone is trying to figure anything out, and I would have liked it if some characters were considering that at this point.

Cat is finished with Hot Vampire Next Door: Season Two (Midnight Harbor, #2)
This was so fun! I enjoyed the two leads playing with each other and how things developed with more focus on vampire politics and houses. As with the last book, I just want more.

Cat
Cat is finished with King of Shadows (King of Shadows, #1)
This book had good spicy scenes but I wasn't a fan of the characters, plot and writing, if I'm honest.

This was a great conclusion to this series and I really wasn't expecting the ending to hit me so hard!

Cat
Cat is finished with The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1)
This book was so slow and a bit obvious for my tastes. The ending got better, but it did leave me thinking I'd only read half a book. I think I would have enjoyed this more if the pacing of the first half of the book was condensed, and then more story was added where the book finishes.

Cat
Cat is finished with A Touch of Darkness (Hades & Persephone, #1)
I liked this Hades/Persephone retelling overall. There were some things that made me facepalm and at times it felt a little like fanfiction (which I loved because it gave me nostalgic vibes and felt kind of comforting). The spicy scenes were a little bit quick, but overall, this was fun.

Cat is reading Little Women
A classic that I know from watching the film when I was young; it definitely made me nostalgic and happy.

Cat
Cat is finished with Into the Shadowlands
This book had a nice premise with some good ideas, but I think it could have been fleshed out a lot more (which would have helped with some of the issues I had with it), and there could have been a lot more showing than telling in the description. Also, I did notice a fair few tense changes and spelling errors that did affect my reading experience.

Cat
Cat is finished with An Enchantment of Ravens
This was whimsical and fun; I enjoyed the little details like the goat sisters and the creepiness of the barrow lords. The end was a little quick and bittersweet though, leaving me hanging with a lot of questions that I would have liked answered.

Cat
Cat is finished with The Demon in the Wood (Grishaverse, #0.1)
I really liked this short story; it provided some great context around the Darkling's backstory and his motivations.

Cat
Cat is finished with The Hating Game
I really liked the games the two main characters played but I kept feeling quite hot/cold about their relationship. The end from the wedding speech onwards was amazing though. Definitely ended up loving it.

Cat is finished with The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings)
I'm so glad I reread this. It filled me with nostalgia and made me so happy. I'd forgotten how many songs were in this though! Also, wow, Tom Bombadil is annoying (a hill I will die on).

Cat
Cat is finished with Storm Glass (Glass, #1)
I really wanted to like this, but why are all the characters so unlikeable? Everyone's so whiney and focusing on boy troubles instead of an interesting storyline. It did improve when the Poison Study characters started appearing though and it was definitely really easy to read.

Cat is finished with 24 Hours in Ancient Rome: A Day in the Life of the People Who Lived There
Turns out this is how I like to learn historical things - pairing history with stories and focusing on the human aspect.

Relatively good story with a clever main character who's terrible at office politics.

Cat
Cat is finished with World's Edge (Nightblade #2)
I enjoyed this book more than the first; particularly how the training montage section (that I typically don't enjoy) was paired with Moriko's storyline which kept the book moving. It was also nice to see more politics and development of the wider world.

Cat
Cat is finished with Legendary (Caraval, #2)
I liked this book more than I thought I would (I wasn't the biggest fan of Tella), but it definitely felt less like a game than the first book. The romance was great and intriguing, though I did end up getting frustrated at the resolution of the book.

This was depressingly interesting, morbid but cool. I'm definitely mad that there's no more to read.

Cat
Cat is reading Protecting What's Mine (Playing with Trouble)
I can't say that I was a fan of this book. It was a little hard to get behind the characters when the dialogue felt like they were all interviewing each other, and I didn't particularly like the plot.

Cat is finished with Waylander (Drenai Tales #3)
Somehow I manage to forget just how much I love this book and get blown away by it every time I pick it up. With reluctant heroes all round, so much discussion around what it means to be good and some awesome characters, I can't recommend this enough.

Cat
Cat is finished with Deathscent (Intrigues of the Reflected Realm, #1)
This book had a slow start but when the group left Malmes-Wutton I got really invested and didn't want to put the book down. There were definitely some interesting concepts here but I am quite indifferent about the Tudor period in general so that affected my enjoyment.

Cat is reading Hot Vampire Next Door: Season One (Midnight Harbor, #1)
This was such a fun world and I really liked the two main characters and how they interacted with each other. Definitely didn't realise this would leave me hanging (despite the fact that it literally says season one on the cover...) but I am eager to read more (as soon as I can log it on Goodreads).

James Bond tropes meet Lovecraftian horrors? Yes, please. This was a fun adventure (also featuring a very accurate representation of all PowerPoint presentations), and I really liked the short story at the end too.

Unfortunately I had a major plot point spoiled for this book so it didn't hit quite as hard as I think it would otherwise. It was still a pretty good read though.

Cat
Cat is reading Nefarious Betrayal (Precarious Shifters, #1)
The story was interesting but it was just so slow. I feel like this could have been condensed down a little to the point where this entire book was the first half of a book. Having said that, I did really like the backstory sections, as well as the fact that all of the guys had distinct personalities.

Cat is finished with An Unkindness of Ghosts
Set on a spaceship that mirrors the structure of the antebellum south, with slavery and abuse of every kind, this book is an intense, hard-hitting read but it's so worth it. There were some really interesting and fantastic explorations of race, intersectionality, gender and neurodivergence.
