In which I realize two things:

1.) Basil is not a toy rabbit. He's real (*facepalm* I read that part a little too fast).

2.) My Kindle is now at 13% *runs off to get it charged*

To my surprise, he's already packed a little satchel and is sitting on the floor, tying a yellow ribbon around Basil's (toy rabbit) neck.
"Look!" He grins at me. "So Basil doesn't get lost. Yellow is a bright color, and mom's favorite too."

"I won't tell Mom that you're using her favorite shoebox if you help me with Hank."...

"Girls have favorite shoeboxes?" He shakes his head. "That is so weird."

He doesn't need to know that we don't. In fact, I don't know that the shoebox isn't one of Mom's favorites.

When I heard there was a story with an artist, another with butterflies, and yet another with a horse, I was sold. Then I opened it up on my Kindle and saw the first story was middle grade, my favorite genre! I can't wait to start reading this book.

This kid is a riot lol.

Uh-oh, we've been spotted...

I've been going over the first part on and off over the weekends when I'm doing more stuff on my Kindle. Since I'm close to finishing my other books, (and I'm starting to read more consistently) I thought I'd officially add this to my 'currently reading' shelf. So far, I'm really enjoying the main characters and their crazy adventures...

Stayed up late watching a treasure hunting movie with the family, so I didn't get any reading done yesterday (hope to get closer to the end tonight).

By the way, the movie was Lost & Found (2016) It was good, really suspenseful, and Cary Elwes was in it (he played the rich bad guy?!)

Oops... the hero is covered in flour and stumbled into the middle of an important meeting...this can't be good lol.

Ack! Getting closer to the end...(poor Despereaux!)

In which we are back from our break, ready to continue the tale...

So, what better way to take a break from a heavy-themed fairytale than a small collection of Christmas stories? *lol* I know, I know, it's not winter season. But I read the first story in the book in January and decided to finish it up since they're shorter in length.

I think I'll take a brief pause from this book. It's much darker than the movie adaptation that I grew up watching. Personally, I don't hate the story. Rather, I love the narrative style and it gives me some wonderful classic fairytale vibes. But I think I'll take a little break to think about the story so far cause there's a lot happening.

...Oh dear. This is quite a turn.

Despereaux's father: "He will be the end of us all, sitting at the foot of a human king. Unbelievable! Unthinkable!"

Me: "Inconceivable!!!"
(Oh wait...other book XD)

Despereaux waited until she was gone, and then he reached out and, with one paw, touched the lovely words: "Once upon a time."
..."Once upon a time," he said aloud, relishing the sound. And then, tracing each word with his paw, he read the story of a beautiful princess and the brave knight who serves and honors her.

My favorite line so far: "The April sun, weak but determined, shone through a castle window and from there squeezed itself through a small hole in the wall and placed one golden finger on the little mouse."

Poor Feebie. I too would like to both hug and punch said character XD. *returns to eagerly seeing what will happen*
