Oh, this is great stuff. This, like work by Stephen King (odd comparison, I know) feels... smooth. Confident. Like I'm not about to hit a speed bump of incompetency in the middle of a paragraph that will make me wince, which happens a bit with other writers.

You have a good point! Between his accident, getting clean and becoming a bit deranged by Trump and Covid, old Uncle Stevie has written some absolute shit in the last twenty years (I liked You Like It Darker and The Outsider, though). Still, even King's garbage that should have stayed a first draft has a sort of polish to it that a lot of writers don't have. I think I rated my last King a "Stephen King 3-stars" which is like an Everyone Else 4-stars.
