I'm not a big fan of it, to be honest. In real life, PKD claims he was hit by a pink beam of light in 1974 that filled his mind with knowledge, and the result was the VALIS trilogy, of which this is the second book. The book reads like the pink beam event, completely insane. I think PKD was clinically insane by the time he wrote these books. They're very religious in nature, and involve bizarre rants and storylines. And as is classic with PKD there's the confusing melding of numerous realities and the "nothing is what it seems" aspect to the entire story.

For me this trilogy was "OK", but it does read like the ravings of a madman, in my opinion. I love PKD and he's one of my favourite writers, but this trilogy really didn't work for me. I hope you have a better time with it if you decide to read it! 🙂
