Persuasion is the most romantic, but this one is the most fun?

“If there is a good fortune on one side, there can be no occasion for any on the other. No matter which has it, so that there is enough. I hate the idea of one great fortune looking out for another. And to marry for money I think the wickedest thing in existence.”
I thought Lizzy got hots for Darcy sometime after she saw his house. And then he saved her family… with his money. Also, “No matter which has it”?Rly?

Where people wish to attach, they should always be ignorant. To come with a well-informed mind is to come with an inability of administering to the vanity of others, which a sensible person would always wish to avoid. A woman especially, if she have the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can.

And while the abilities of the nine-hundredth abridger of the History of England, or of the man who collects and publishes in a volume some dozen lines of Milton, and a chapter from Sterne, are eulogized by a thousand pens—there seems almost a general wish of decrying the capacity and undervaluing the labour of the novelist, and of slighting the performances which have only genius, wit, and taste to recommend them.

Supposedly... Not sure I agree, but I guess ol' Jane tried. I remember being told there are inside jokes here that would fly past your head if you weren't familiar with the period (they did over mine, by the way). The regulars at the GR Austen group must have that discusssion archived somewhere...
I wrote this when I was at that part where she was snooping around the bluebeard’s apartments and there was bad weather, horrible wind and atmosphere! After all I am C Bronte’s girl! Alas it didn’t last and I am bored again… Also we shamed Bella cause she thought she can do better than marry heroine’s brother yet we are not that judgmental towards the hero’s brother who flirted with an engaged lady cause silly duplicitous women, am I right? Even though Austen is obsessed with counting her character’s money. I am a little confused
Hahaha, counting her character's money. :D Oh, how I feel ya! You'd not have survived in the Austenite circle, probably. Lovely and well-meaning folks, but they do drop a lecture on 'historical context' on you so you feel dumb for not appreciating ol' Jane's brilliance.
Well I'll keep paying attention, but wasn't Fanny Price, the moment she visited her poor dirty family with little siblings, like
"Get me back to my cold unloving aunt who wouldn't give a hoot if I died, but their house is so big and rich!"?
Why are we judgmental now?
Looking at your updates and realizing that I remember absolutely zero about this book. Apparently I didn’t care for it, but I cannot recall why.

Also how irritating is the "hero" patronizing a teenager and his own sister? I really dislike poor Catherine marrying literally the first man she's ever met!

Al..."
But don’t you ecall the most romantic of endings where Jane just stated to the reader that he was not that interested but then Catherine showed interest in him and he was like, why the hell not? But I can’t say this is the worst romance in Austen, at peast they had time to become. friendly.
Oh I love her acting like a heroine in a gothic book part! Reminded me when we were kids and a bunch of us were obsessed with Sherlock Holmes in school so we created a detective agency. And 4 or 5 of us on the breaks where investigating weird stuff, following random people who looked suspicious and creating mysteries for them. It is exactly what kids would do, and Catherine read very young to me!
