This is... awful. Jane literally cries every few pages, and she has absolutely no backbone. The writing is also so bad. I can't believe that THE Tanith Lee wrote this.

Jessica Reeeeaaallly? I've wondered about this book for years! I've heard from so many people that it's her "masterpiece" but I frankly have found the cover art (no matter the cover) and the title off-putting for some reason! My old book club had read this before I joined and acted like none of her later books ever measured up!

My fave book of hers is White as Snow, because of its gorgeous prose and greek mythos combined with fairy tale.

Another notable book is Biting the Sun, which explores sexuality/gender/climate change and a whole bunch of other topics in a utopian society.

Jessica I loved her Black Unicorn series, and Red as Blood, and I have a great fondness for A Heroine of the World, which fascinates me in its presentation of a passive character who nevertheless changes her world!
