I’m not sure if it’s my current state of mind or what, but I’m not enjoying/appreciating this, and am even finding it a little trite or something? I’ll have to read other reviews to see better thoughts on it. It’s definitely about an event that should not happen, a tragedy and despicable action. But this response in memoir is somehow not hitting its mark with me.

I haven’t read this but your take is interesting! Have you read other Rushdie? He has a very specific style that doesn’t always work for me and I wonder if that is part of the trouble here

I was already starting to get the impression he might have a style I wouldn't like, so now I'm definitely wondering. But I'm also not very motivated to explore!
