I’m rereading this because my friend’s kid is reading it in his grade 9 English class. It seemed to me like a bit of a weird choice, so I thought I’d revisit it to see. Not sure all of it is grade nine appropriate? Also, so many references that surely must just fly by if you are not at least the age of the author!

There were some very deep D&D cuts in it. I hope you have as much fun as I did.

I enjoyed it more the first time around I think. This time I found the many many deep cuts a bit too self indulgent. Maybe this is also because I have read his other (less good) books, so this one feels less fresh? The ending was still satisfying though.
The other person in the house just reread it and enjoyed it. He also thinks it is a bizarre choice for a grade nine class.
