That drove me mad in the later Greatcoats books. Well, that and the fact that the women dying was always a motivational crutch for the men (who had infinite plot armour).

I was sort of hoping the fact this series was more YA in the demo would mitigate stuff like that so your post has me worried. I’ll try this one at some point, as I bought the first book when I was halfway through Greatcoats, but my enthusiasm has definitely taken a hit, lol,
