I love the characters Martin and Gina portrayed by Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell-Martin. They had such an on-screen chemistry, that people thought of them as a real life couple. The show was funny, and their interactions relatable. "Martin" is still a great show, in my opinion!

I was going through a difficult period in my life. I was being physically and emotionally abused in my marriage, and I was a police officer at the same time. Therefore, I had to protect and serve the public, and could not protect and serve myself. The harsh realities of life led me to write the first 9 chapters of the book.
It was therapy for me, and it reflected a lot of things that other people were dealing with. After years of continued abuse, it finally ceased after my husband accepted a job in another city, and commuted 350 miles on the weekend to see me and my sons. I got writer's block and put the book down. After I finally joined my husband in the city he was working, the abuse started again, only this time the final straw was when he attempted to kill me. I was able to escape, I moved back where I started, and prayed constantly. I was then inspired to finish the book, and it came to me in a series of dreams.
It still reflects the turmoil people experience, why they experience it, where does it come from, and where are we headed in the future!!
It starts out with a conversation in Hell. Satan gives his assignment to willing inhabitants of Hell to go to earth and wreak havoc in peoples lives, so that they will die and join the others in Hell. It's pretty interesting!! I completely dreamed about the way Hell looked, the description of the demons, and the future details that seem to real to be true!

I draw inspiration from movies that I watch. I think about plots that would have flowed better if done a little differently; I then create something that I feel would be more intriguing than what I just saw.
I have over 18 years of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement experience. I have witnessed a lot, I have talked to a ton of inmates, criminals, sex offenders, murderers. I worked in a prison, I was a sex offender case manager, I worked as a parole officer, and I was a police officer. I have material that allows me a large range of topics to draw from as well.
Not to mention life experiences that have inspired me. I was abused in my marriage and was almost killed. Therefore, I always have a new idea; I just have to direct it in a way that will interest my readers.

I just finished a short story, that I have entered in a contest. It is called "Under His Watchful Eye." It started out as a short story; however, it flows perfectly with the next novel that I am working on about a serial killer. Therefore, I am already light years ahead on my next novel, that I hope to finish by the end of 2015.
I am also heavily promoting my current novel "On Earth As It Is In Hell" see, I just promoted it again right now!!!!
I have some local book signings coming up in January and February, and some radio shows that I am doing this month as well. I will keep you posted!!!

If you believe in your material, do not be discouraged, when turned down by agents, or publishers, etc. Know that it is not a reflection of your work. I live by the mantra "if it is to be it is up to me" that applies to my writing, my publishing, and my marketing.
Have your work edited, let others read it. Oftentimes, writers see their book completely, and understand what they are trying to convey to the reader; however, when you let someone else read it, they need clarification. So accept, criticism and advice, so that others will embrace it.

I have so many ideas that run through my head. I think about what I would like to read or see, and I get the opportunity to create it on paper. Writing is therapy for me, so the best part about being a writer is having a hobby that allows me to release stress, while being creative at the same time.

For the current book that I just published, "On Earth As It Is In Hell" I had writer's block for 4 years!! I wrote the first 9 chapters, and realized that I did not know what direction to go next. The next time I picked the book up to finish it, I prayed about it, and I had dreams that appeared to me like a movie. I would keep a pad and pen by the bed, and write it exactly as I saw it in my dreams.
To answer your question, when I am experiencing writer's block, I almost always go to a movie. I need to draw inspiration from other sources, or events that are going on in the world. I have to walk away from a project, regroup, and then proceed with my work.
