First, I retire from gainful employment. Then I rattle around for a few years, annoying my wife. I bounce from interest to interest. I take a deep and involved journey into the metaphysical core of my very being. Then I come up for air, kick that aside, and land on something that lasts. Fiction writing is lasting.

The novel began as a short story about Aiden, a poor soul with severe OCD problems. It was to be the first of an anthology of shorts about people with peculiar characteristics. As I wrote, I introduced a character who would tell Aiden when he would die. The result was so striking that I realized I had a new and unexpected protagonist, a character who could carry an entire novel. Does anyone recall a '50s TV show called The Millionaire?
