Hey Bruce, Raike 3 is currently in the hands of my editor and going through the final tweaks. I expect it to be on sale in mid-February. :)

Hey Ben! I kinda know Ana Spoke (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...), but I've only had online contact with her. I know there's a Writer's Meetup, which I really should go to, but whenever I check the site I seem to have always just missed the latest gathering. It's the same with the NaNoWriMo groups. I'm sure there's a gazillion writers in Melbourne so it would be nice to meet some more!

I don't think I've ever had writer's block per se, but I've certainly had writer's fatigue, where I simply can't be bothered writing any more of this particular story. Perhaps the original ending I had before I began the story no longer fits, leaving me unsure of how to get to any ending, let alone the one I'm about to discard. If that happens I'll easily abandon the book for a while and jump to something else.
Eventually I'll return to the unfinished draft. I'll go back a couple of chapters and find the point where the story started to head towards total crapdom. From that point I will try and take the book in a new direction. As soon as I get to the end I can go back and make it look as though this direction was the plan all along.

Complete control of my workspace! Do I have to listen to someone else's choice in radio station? No! Can I work inside a stuffy office with the curtains closed or outside in a hammock? Yes! Can I choose my own work schedule? Hell yeah!

Find another writer who is on par with your ability, someone who also wants to get better. Beta-read their work, let them read yours, and try to figure out how you would improve their work. Not just changes that you would make to suit your style, but how you would actually improve their writing. Then apply what you learned to your stories. Repeat with every book you two write.
Also, read genres that you are not usually drawn to. If you write horror, read a romance novel. If you write YA, read fantasy. It might help you draw from many different writing techniques so that you can deliver the book you're trying to tell.

The final draft of the fifth Kingston Raine story, the third draft of a British horror story where morally conflicted good guys get their revenge on morally bankrupted bad guys in a sleepy little town, and something about zombies.

I look over the bookshelf stuffed with more books than I'll ever be able to read, pull one out at random, smell the pages, and that's all the motivation I need.
