Lucy Austin Hi Jason, I only feel vulnerable in my writing when people assume that my writing is about my personal life. I write about stuff I relate to, but I've been very careful to make it fictitious so that I'm not vulnerable in any way. I hope that makes sense!
Lucy Austin The idea for the novel came from my own experiences during my early twenties. Having returned from a year out in Australia full of graduate ambition, I found my options restricted by a rather average typing test score. This effectively meant I accrued plenty of workplace anecdotes but not much else, which only served to make my time in Sydney seem ever more idyllic. Luckily, it all worked out – the typing speed got (a bit) quicker too.
Lucy Austin By the people I come across, things that are said, the situations around me. I like then trying to collate it all into some sort of entertaining narrative.
Lucy Austin I'm mulling over the second novel while working in my day job as a copywriter.
Lucy Austin Believe in what you are writing and who you are writing for.
Lucy Austin The absolute satisfaction that comes from having your words out there, being able to leave your mark in some way.
Lucy Austin I never think of it as writer's block - I think of it as being more inspired in the mornings and in the evenings. There's definitely a chunk of time in the afternoon when my brain refuses to come up with the magic.
