Beth Franzese Write something every day, even if it's only one sentence. Even when composing emails, pay attention to making them interesting and well-worded. Always keep paper and pen handy to jot down any ideas that flash into your mind; they will flash right out if you don't.
Beth Franzese I go take a dance class.
Beth Franzese The blank page (or computer screen) gives me total freedom. I can go anywhere, be anything. Until my characters take on a life of their own and dictate the rest of the journey.
Beth Franzese I am continuing to write the story of the two Paulies. Am also at work on a very dark piece about two go-go dancers.
Beth Franzese I find inspiration in many places. The characters in "Paulie & Paulie" were inspired by the appearance of three people I saw standing on a street corner. "Birdie" is a homage to my grandmother; the tales of dancing in her slip for ice cream money and putting gum in the rabbi's beard are true. Two of the stories were writing assignments. A discussion about how a dark secret could affect one's life led to "Apron Strings."
Beth Franzese "All Gorgeous Creatures" is the title of the first story in my collection. I had been re-reading pieces I'd written over the past few years and realized the sentiment expressed by that title - namely, that we should all be looked at with compassion, no matter how dire our circumstances - applied to all my characters.
