My most recent book is "Orphans in the Black: A Space Opera," which is an anthology of science fiction short stories by 19 authors. A successful writer friend put the anthology together and had done all the marketing and promotion legwork, so I can't take any credit for that. The story I submitted, "The Alien," was inspired by the political discussions about "aliens."

I tell myself that it's absolutely okay to throw away everything I write when I'm not in the groove, that it's still exercise for my brain. So I try to write through a block, but sometimes I have to take a detour and do research for a story or bake a batch of cookies for an afternoon!
