L.A. Ramirez I have wanted to write about Montana since I moved here almost twenty-two years ago coupled with a stalking incident that I had about fifteen years ago. My husband is from Cuba and our cultures are so different, yet we have blended and kept both my Irish-German heritage and my husbands Latin heritage alive in our family. These were the ideas that played around in my head, and when I began putting them down on paper, and I developed my characters, the story began materializing.
L.A. Ramirez Ideas are everywhere. I travel as often as I can, and I see intrigue and interest all around in my day to day life. I save ideas and love to listen to people tell their stories. Encourage others to tell you about their lives, ask questions about anything that interest you, and of course, read. It is when I start writing a story, the first time through I let everything flow out. The mind is a great gatherer of knowledge and when I relax, usually with headphones and my favorite music playing, as I write tidbits and stories flow out freely.
L.A. Ramirez I am working on the second book in The Big Sky Series, Big Sky Allure. It is Mari's story. She goes to Spain and encounters a gun deal, gets kidnapped by the mysterious gun dealer Mikel, and ends up on the high seas. It is adventurous and travels through Spain, Morocco, Cuba, Miami and back to Montana. I have begun the third and fourth books in the series, and each of these is from a character in my first and second books.
L.A. Ramirez Read your genre, set a goal, believe in yourself and write. You must read what you write. I can't say any more about that but if you don't read in the area you write in, you will not know what people like to read or how the genre is written. It was when I set a goal to complete and attempt to publish a book I did. It took two and a half years, about eight years after writing my first book, but I finished it and published it. I was blessed with friends and family who believed in me, but I did have a few naysayers. I chose to ignore them and listen to the positive. Only you have the control over what you accept from people, so ignore the negative and accept the positive.
L.A. Ramirez I would say telling stories. I have been making up stories my whole life, as a child it was a 'place to go' and be alone. Someone asked me once where my 'private space' was as a child, a closet, a bedroom, a favorite spot outside. I told them it was in my head, making up stories. I could be in a conversation with someone and a story would play in my mind. I discovered as a mid-life adult that I could share these stories, so for me it was like discovering a new adventure to put them on paper.
L.A. Ramirez I don't have much problem with this. If I feel 'stuck' I am under the belief it doesn't belong. Early on I was told that and it has always proven to be true. I just 'write', even if it doesn't make sense in the book. I can go back and pull out or change it later. Ideas flow from my head and if I write them, something I need comes out.
