Power though. Just stay at it. Eventually you will have a break through. Also, don't be afraid to throw it away. If an approach to a chapter isn't working—even if you have put hours into it—scrap it. Start with a new idea. When you are too tied to an idea that isn't working it will drain you.

Hmmmm. Hard to boil it down to one, but I'd say for me the best thing is knowing I'm doing exactly what God has called me to do, and that he is going to use my crazy creative ideas to point people to himself and the Bible.

Work hard at self-awareness. Know who you are and how your background plays into your writing projects. Don't be afraid to go super-niche. Be uniquely you.
Work hard at your craft. There are no short cuts. The more you write, the better you will get.
For Christian writers, seek the Lord. Pray for HIS will to be done through your talents (Matthew 6:33). See your work as his project, not yours. You are his masterpiece. Let him use you in a unique way that brings glory to God.

I'm currently working on the second book in the Non-Prophet's Guide™ series. I'm also producing animation for a couple of animated series for clients through my animation company, Timbuktoons (Timbuktoons.com).

I've found that developing new book concepts are 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. That initial creative spark sends you on a journey but it is truly hard work to finish something big. I've also found that when working on a book, I usually have to start writing with out feeling inspired. Then once I get into the writing after about 15-20 minutes the creativity and inspiration come. So, in developing a concept it starts with inspiration. In completing a major project inspiration comes out of daily habits and a commitment to just chip away at it daily—whether I feel like it or not.

I had a character I developed several years ago, but didn't know what context to use him in. Then a few years ago I was studying Bible prophecy and trying to figure out why the world seemed to be going crazy. This journey led to the concept of the book and the character known as The Non-Prophet was a perfect fit for the book. I wanted to use humor and my background as an artist to help people see how relevant Bible prophecy is and how, as Christians, we are commanded to watch for the Lord's return.
