Read really good authors! And then write. Have fun with it. When I first began writing KATIE'S CHOICE, those writing sessions were wonderful worship times for me. I was giving back, in the form of a fictional story, the truths that had so graciously been given to me. I treasure those memories!

For me, it's being able to share Truth. In the end, that's what really matters. Whether it's in the form of a song, skit, play, or novel, Truth learned and then shared is my way of encouraging the body of Christ and hopefully shining light into a darkened world.

I have started a book that deals with another very dark subject, this time rape. I am drawn to the tough things of life because that is where we find out who we are and who our God really is. This is a difficult subject to research and write about. At times, I have considered shelving the whole thing, but I always come back to it because I believe it needs to be explored and deserves to be explored, even if the discoveries made along the way are unpalatable or scary. The journey itself is the tool, even when it proves to be painful. To quote a favorite old song, "Pain is a tool in the hands of the surgeon, and to share in His love, I must share in His suffering." (from "Scars" by Farrell and Farrell) So, I am continuing down the road; hopefully, when I'm finished, there will be gems of truth worth sharing.

My book KATIE'S CHOICE actually started out as a song my husband and I wrote called "Her Name Is Katie." I literally wrote the lyrics in about thirty minutes. I was listening to a really sweet song about a young girl who had given her baby up for adoption. With tears rolling down my face, I couldn't help thinking about all the girls out there who didn't have a sweet, happy ending to their story of an unplanned pregnancy. So, I wrote the song lyrics, and my husband Jon put music to them. Several years later, I decided to turn the song into a story, and I wrote KATIE'S CHOICE.
