Mike Dellosso When I'm fortunate, inspiration finds me and hits at just the right time. But mostly, that's not the case. I have to look for inspiration; I need to spark it and get it to ignite. There are two main ways I do that. One, is by reading authors who inspire me. Most of the time that's Dean Koontz, Stephen King, or C. J. Box. A second way is by listening to music. This may vary from soundtracks (movie scores) to praise & worship to southern rock. It all depends on what I'm writing and what kind of mood I'm in.
Mike Dellosso The freedom to create and explore a whole new world . . . a world I create! I love being able to use my imagination to create worlds and characters to populate those worlds. I love having the freedom to get those characters into some very sticky situations and then get them out of those situations in surprising ways. The possibilities are endless and the boundaries are really limitless.
Mike Dellosso One, don't give up. Keep writing. Keep exploring the craft and honing your skills. The only way to improve is to write. Understand that much of what you write early on will never get read by anyone outside your friends and family. It's practice. You're improving.

Two, let writing be an artistic outlet. Don't force it. Follow your heart and let the words come from your soul. You're not out to impress anyone. Just write.
Mike Dellosso Most of the time if I'm suffering from writer's block it's because of one of two reasons. One, I'm distracted with something else going on in my life. I have a full-time job, a wife, and five daughters so it's not hard for some life event to trump writing on the priority list. When that happens I either need to take some time off from writing or I need to work on something less demanding. Two, I'm burned out. I've been working too hard. I need a break. When that happens I usually take a break. I need a break. I need to walk away from my writing and allow my mind to rest and reset.
