John Clement That's Tom Hale! He's in the book I'm working on now:

Tom’s in his late 40’s probably, with a rosy round face, round wire-rimmed glasses, round head of curly black hair, and a round belly that Tom does his best to keep in check. He was married at the time of the accident, but his wife left him shortly thereafter. I don’t know the whole story — he doesn’t talk about her much, other than to say she apparently couldn’t handle the idea of living happily ever after with a paraplegic, so she left him for the first man who’d take her. I never met her, of course, but if I ever do it’ll take every ounce of restraint I have to keep myself from socking her in the face.
John Clement I love the idea. A guide dog is the quintessential "man's best friend" -- perfectly illustrating the infinite range of relationships that humans are capable of, which is of course what a lot of Dixie Hemingway is all about... I'll definitely keep it in mind. Thanks!
John Clement Hi Sharon, I'm happy to say there's a new Dixie Hemingway Mystery coming this December: THE CAT SITTER & THE CANARY
John Clement Hi Ellen, I always love hearing from readers so thanks for your message... and to answer your question: yes and no. My mom passed away in July of 2011 after a year long bout with cancer. It goes without saying that was a very hard year, but we spent a lot of time together, which I am forever grateful for. By the time we realized it was incurable, we had already talked about her vision for the future of the series... and part of that vision included me. She wanted me to continue the series and her publisher was on board, so after a few days of hand-wringing I agreed. I honestly didn't think I could do it, but my mom gave me a lot of encouragement and advice. And I am a little afraid to say this, but I think she'd be proud. So, yes, in a way we worked on the last three together. For The Cat Sitter's Cradle, she had already written several chapters -- the client with the giant fish tank with a life-sized mermaid inside was her idea... so I just took that and ran with it. Now, when I write, I sort of feel her looking over my shoulder, so it still feels like a collaboration.
