Apart from writing as much as possible. Don't ignore/ forget the sparks that you come across sometimes - 'it may be a small idea' - 'a character which appealed to you' - 'an object which captured your attention'. Let it swirl in your mind and keep reminding yourself about it, you never what that can turn into.

I like writing about the future and in writing I am free to run my mind as far as possible. It is liberating in so many ways!

I try and spend time outdoors, where there are lots of people, that always seems to trigger a few thoughts.
I also use Mindmaps/ or just pen things down to move ahead. I feel once you pen any thought, it allows your mind to think more.
