Lindsay Detwiler I'm planning on reading The Glass Castle, some books by Jane Green, and some books by Jojo Moyes :)
Lindsay Detwiler I find that I'm usually inspired at the end of the day, after my mind has processed different events. I just sit down and tell myself I'll write for at least an hour. Usually, once I get started, the words just flow.
Lindsay Detwiler My current project is another contemporary romance. It focuses on two female protagonists and their different struggles with love. It has a much lighter tone than Voice of Innocence.
Lindsay Detwiler Just write from the heart. When you sit down to write, just have fun and let it come naturally. Don't try to force your writing into a specific category or try to make it so that it will attract certain people. When I write, I'm not thinking about who will buy my book or if it will be popular; I just focus on telling the story as best as I can.
Lindsay Detwiler I love the magical feeling of impacting others with your words. I love when people feel something from my writing; it's so amazing to think that people can get attached to characters that I have completely invented in my mind.
Lindsay Detwiler It's so important to just work through writer's block and not let it stop you for long. I try to make myself write everyday, even if I don't feel uninspired. Even if what I write doesn't work or end up changing it, oftentimes I just have to get myself started and I find the words will start to flow.
Lindsay Detwiler I've always been fascinated (or maybe the correct word is horrified) by how many people in our society have been wrongly convicted of crimes. One day, I got to thinking about the impact a conviction like this would have on loved ones, especially a girlfriend or wife. From this concept, the title Voice of Innocence came to me. Soon after, I thought of Emma and Corbin, two "average" American teenagers ripped apart by a wrongful conviction. It seemed like something I could write about, and it seemed like something that would make a solid love story. From there, I just started writing :)
